A Day at Design Bridge – by Jessica Kilmer

Some of my favorite moments from this trip have been when we visited advertising agencies. I felt relaxed the moment I walked into Design Bridge today and Golley Slater a few weeks ago. Both advertising agencies had a certain ambiance that was truly inviting. Today I was able to picture myself in the agency, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!

We had the opportunity to hear from David Annetts, the executive creative director of Design Bridge. Design Bridge is an independent brand design agency with offices in London, Singapore, Amsterdam, and recently New York. When David started at Design Bridge in 1988, there were about 20 people in the London office, and now there are about 250 people! The company has grown tremendously over the years and continues to gain awards for their work. Some of their most incredible work was for Johnnie Walker. The creative team used mirrors to create the signature Johnnie Walker emblem but with a twist. David also talked about student that have been hired after their student placements. A student in the agency said, “Every project is a chance to become an expert on a new subject.” I couldn’t agree with this statement more after seeing Design Bridge and observing their amazing work!

Today I realized the type of environment that I want to work in for years to come. The relaxed vibe of the office was great for creative thinking. I left the agency learning that you do not necessarily have to be great at art, but you need to be able to clearly communicate your ideas with others.
