Another day, another bus trip. The final bus trip of our “Shammrocker Tour” was today. The final destination? Dublin. Of course we had to make a few stops on the way. After a couple hours on the road we stopped at our tour guide David’s mom’s hometown to check out a tomb that is over 5,000 years old. The weather was rough, but we hiked to the top of a hill to see it anyways and I could not be happier about it. David’s mom explained to us that they don’t really know what the tomb was used for, and that ‘tomb’ does not necessarily mean it was a burial spot. The inside of the tomb was filled with ancient carvings of interesting and beautiful artwork.
The next stop included David handing us little pieces of strings to dip in a little pond of holy water, say a prayer, and tie the string to the tree that hangs over the pond. It was a quick and simple stop but it was so cool to see another way the culture here differs from in America. We said our prayers and had a cool little moment together.
Finally we make it to the famous city of Dublin. I’ll be honest it was not what I expected at all. It’s crazy to see the differences between cities in the states and cities here in Ireland. It is really cool here, though; it’s just totally different than what I have known my whole life. The buildings and the people seem to just have more tradition. We have 5 days here now so I am excited to see what is to come!
