Ireland, We Love You

Ireland, We Love You

By Sarah Staelgraeve

Reporting live from Ireland for the last time. Tomorrow we take off bright and early to Wales, our next destination. Looking back on our days in Ireland, I feel extremely blessed. This is the first location I traveled to overseas, and it will always have a special place in my heart.

We began our last full day at Trinity College. The campus was simply stunning and for the most part hasn’t changed since it was built in the 1600’s. The school has around 18,000 students. MSU is more than twice the size as Trinity and it is hard for us Spartans to relate to them size wise. It also seems much more common for students to stay at home rather than live on or close to campus and this is very different than a typical student at MSU. I didn’t feel as though I was walking around a college campus. The walls enclosed around us and a lot of the ground was paved with cobblestone. The buildings were old, but very elegant.

a look at the Trinity College website

After we explored the campus, we walked around in some stores and ate at a place near the college. The sun was out all day and we enjoyed every second of our last day exploring Dublin. Eventually, we got tired and decided to head back to our hostel. What happened on our walk home is something that we would never have seen in East Lansing! A crowd of about 200 people were standing around a crazed man on a 10 foot tall tricycle. He called one of the girls out in our study abroad group to throw knives up to him. It was hysterical and a great way to end our wild adventures in Dublin. I am ecstatic to have been able to enjoy this wonderful country and hope to return one day in the future.
