What am I talking about? The Titanic of course! While being in Belfast, it’s a must that you visit the museum.
Before coming to Ireland, I never knew the Titanic was a British ship. That may be due to the fact that I’ve never seen The movie. It sounds crazy but I never really felt an urge to see the movie since you always hear about it growing up, but since visiting the museum today and learning so much, it has definitely become a movie that I must watch.
I’m going to start off by saying, this has been the best museum I’ve ever been to. I love the fact that they genuinely took the time to tell the history and the story.
The museum started off by telling the history of Belfast’s growing ship trade. It also exposed the working conditions people had based off of their social status. It then went into the process of how the Titanic was built. From the drawing board, to the tools that were used to how they put it together. What I thought was cool was, in the midst of the museum, there was a ride that visually showed what went into building the Titanic.
Next, they talked about the opening day for Titanic. I thought it was cool that they had a room with life size models of what the rooms, dining rooms and decor looked like inside of the boat. They then go into how the boat sank. One of my favorite parts was that they had real quotes from survivors of the accident. It made the experience so much more real, and you felt the emotions in the room. They then proceeded to tell how oceanographers found remains of the Titanic in the ocean. They had interactive photos and videos showing what they found in the ocean. I think it’s amazing how there is still evidence out there because there will always be more of the story to uncover.
